2007 Winner Fred W. Klock
Fred
Klock is the owner of Klock NDT, a consulting service in Roslyn, Pennsylvania,
which he has operated since its founding in 2004. As a consultant, Klock
manages personnel qualification programs, teaches NDT courses and performs
Level III services. Prior to beginning his own business, Klock worked
for almost 45 years with SPS Technologies in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
While an NDT supervisor for SPS Technologies, Klock was instrumental
in obtaining and maintaining Nadcap certification for the company and
for developing a computerized database covering all aspects of its NDT
work. He holds both ASNT NDT Level III and ACCP Professional Level III
certifications in MT, PT, UT and VT. Klock served in the US Army Reserve
from 1957 to 1965, and has completed fields of study at Temple University
and Spring Garden College.
Klock has been an active member of ASNT since 1990, and
has been particularly involved with the Greater Philadelphia Section,
which he served as secretary, treasurer, vice chair and chair from 1991
to 1995, and which he is presently serving as treasurer once again.
Klock has also been a member of the Section's board of directors since
1995. In addition to his service as an officer, he has volunteered his
time as a member of a number of Section committees and has been involved
in a variety of Section activities, particularly educational programs.
In 1995, ASNT honored him with the Young NDT Professional Award. Also
a member of ASM International, Klock has gone through the chairs of
that organization's Philadelphia chapter and is their permanent executive
treasurer.
2007 Winner Lalita Udpa
Lalita
Udpa is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, where she has
been since 2002. Prior to her affiliation with Michigan State, Udpa
was a professor of electrical engineering at Iowa State University from
1990 to 2001 and a research assistant professor at Colorado State University
from 1986 to 1990. She obtained her Ph.D. in electrical engineering
from Colorado State in 1986, having previously received her M.S. from
the same institution and her B.S. in physics from the University of
Pune, India. In her current position, Udpa teaches undergraduate and
graduate level courses in electrical engineering, conducts research,
and is involved in professional outreach. She has been a member of ASNT
since 1996, and has been involved in a number of activities within the
Society. Since 1997, Udpa has been an associate technical editor of
Materials Evaluation, and she is also a member of the editorial
board of Research in Nondestructive Evaluation. She has contributed
to the NDT Handbook series, and served as chair of the Iowa Section
(1999-2000). Udpa was also a member of the Organizing Committee for
the 2007 Annual Research Symposium and Conference in Orlando, Florida.
In addition to ASNT, Udpa is a member of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics
Society and IEEE. She is the author of six book chapters and over 200
research papers in various journals.
