Philip D. Johnson Honorary Member Award

2007 Winner Ed E. Edgerton

Ed Edgerton began his career in the US Navy in 1958, where he attended naval NDT classes and C-1 welding classes, and became a metallurgy school instructor and NAVSEA 250-1500 certified examiner. When he was discharged in 1969, Edgerton transitioned to industry in San Diego, working for Rhor Corporation, General Dynamics, Sundstrand and Springs Fabrication. He received a degree in quality control and reliability engineering from San Diego City College in 1975.

In 1967, Edgerton began his more than 40 year membership in ASNT, where he progressed in technical competence and service to nondestructive testing technology in various capacities. He was an active member of the San Diego Section from 1967 to 1993. He served as Section chair from 1978 to 1979, Host Committee chair in 1979, Education Committee chair from 1980 to 1984 and Section director at large from 1986 to 1995. At the national level, Edgerton served the Society as vice president (1999-2000) and secretary//treasurer (1998-1999). He also served as vice chair for the Section Operations Council in 1990, Section Management Division director from 1988 to 1990 and as an ASNT national director at large from 1990 to 1993. Edgerton has also been active in many ASNT committees, such as the Reorganization Committee (1990-1992), Awards Committee (1990-1993), facilitator of Board of Directors training (1990-1996), IRRSP Committee secretary (1991-1993), facilitator of Effective Committee Workshops (1992-1996) and chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee (1995-1996). In 1993, Edgerton and his wife, Kathy, moved to Colorado, where he quickly became active in the Colorado Section, serving as Section chair and as regional director for Region 14.

Edgerton received the ASNT Meritorious Service Award in 1995 and the San Diego Section's Meritorious Service Award in 2001. In 1996, he became an ASNT Fellow and in 2003, he received the Mentoring Award. Edgerton is a lifetime member of ASNT.
