Dear Editor,

Can you give a brief historical background about the invention and the introduction of hole type penetrameter?

1. Who discovered it?

2. How and why it was selected for 2% of part thickness? Is there any specific reason?

3. Why it is rectangular in shape not square, triangle, etc.?

4. Is there any alternative to fix the permanant designation number so as to avoid doing malpractices by changing designation number?

TNT supplement is really par excellent and superb presentation.

Thanks.

S.Prakash
