Vol. 9, No. 2 • April 2010
Q. I saw a comment on the ASNT Web page that read, “If initial training documentation is lost it may be necessary to retake training to get new documentation, but training itself does not expire.” An external agency has listed the place and date when training was taken in their documentation, along with an expiry date. Is this correct? R.T., Mexico.
A. No. Training, like experience, does not expire. However, it is important to keep documentation of that training in order to be able to prove that the training was taken (the same applies to experience). Any training company that puts an expiration date on their certificates of completion apparently has not properly interpreted the SNT-TC-1A guidelines.
Q. I have a question about the order with which you place the penetrameter with a shim for a film side exposure. (ASME SEC V Art.2). J.N., Delta, Pennsylvania.
A. If your question requires an interpretation of Article 2, we would not be able to answer it for you, it should be addressed to the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section V Personnel Qualification and Interpretation Workgroup for a response.

Respectfully,
James W. Houf
