2013 ASNT Photo Contest Rules
Entry Eligibility and Specfications
Contest participants must be current members of ASNT. Photographs or videos must have been taken by the entrant on or after 1 January 2013. Participants may submit as many photos and/or videos as they wish.
Photo submissions must be high resolution images or scans of non-digital photographs, in .jpeg, .jpg, or .gif format. Submissions must be 5 MB or smaller. The finalists will be asked to submit a high-resolution file or an original negative, print or slide if the submission is not of high enough resolution. Original negatives, prints, or slides will be returned to finalists.
Photos may not:
- Have been selected as a winner (Grand Prize, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) in other contests.
- Violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright.
- Be digitally or otherwise altered or enhanced. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast, and slight color adjustment, or the digital equivalents, are acceptable. Cropped photos are acceptable.
Video entries require the submission of an active link to the video uploaded onto an acceptable video sharing site (YouTube or Vimeo). Videos must be 90 seconds or less. Those video entrants who are selected as winners must be able to provide a digital file in .mov or .wmv of the video to ASNT upon request.
Entry DeadlineAll entries must be sent to email@example.com by 4pm Eastern Time on 31 August 2013. Entries must include the photo or video and required forms: Contest Entry Form, Photography Release Form, and Model Release Form.
Selection and Judging
ASNT staff will select a maximum of 10 finalists from each category, photo and video. The 10 finalists will be notified of their status by, 15 September 2013 and will appear on the Society’s website at the end of September 2013. Up to four winners will be selected from each category. The grand prize winners will be chosen from those finalists.
Judging of the contest will be conducted by ASNT staff. Winning photographs will be announced at the end of September of 2013. ASNT will notify the winners via the contact information provided at the time of entry; the Society may disqualify anyone who fails to respond to the notification within five business days.
ASNT reserves the right to disqualify incomplete entries and/or contestants who are unable to submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph of at least 300 dpi at 3,000 pixels on the longest side or an original photo negative, print or slide.

PrizesASNT may award a prize for each place for still and video respectively:
- Grand Prizes: Full Registration for ASNT Annual Conference 2013 Las Vegas, 2013 Banquet ticket, and a baseball raglan shirt
- First Prizes: $300 in ASNT Bucks and a baseball raglan shirt
- Second Prizes: $200 in ASNT Bucks and a baseball raglan shirt
- Third Prizes: $100 in ASNT Bucks and a baseball raglan shirt
Winners may receive additional noncash prizes. Winners must sign a release and license, declaration of eligibility, and will be responsible for paying any taxes they may owe on a prize.
Rights, Rules, and ReleasesBy entering the contest, entrants grant ASNT, and those authorized by the ASNT, a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, scholarly and all other standard ASNT purposes. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible. The Society will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.
The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. ASNT reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at its discretion. In the event of a dispute regarding the winners, the Society reserves the right to award or not award the prizes in its sole discretion. The Society reserves the right to disqualify any entrant whose entry or conduct appears in any way to: inhibit the enjoyment of others; tamper with the competition; violate these rules; infringe on the rights of third parties; or act in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Decisions of ASNT are final.
