eBook Purchasing Process

First Time Users Instructions

Before proceeding, verify that you can connect to the ASNT eBook server.

ASNT uses a special port connection for the server that distributes eBooks. Some corporate networks may have security restrictions on connecting to other ports. You can test your ability to connect to our eBook server by clicking on this link. If you do not get a success message, contact your network administrator and request that outgoing connections to port 8080 be allowed.

Download, install and authorize Adobe Digital Editions before downloading your first book.

  1. You must download, install and authorize Adobe Digital Editions before downloading your first book.   http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions.html Click on the “Download Adobe Digital Editions”
  2. Once the installation is complete you should be presented with a 'Setup Assistance' window. After clicking 'Continue' you will be prompted to authorize Adobe Digital Editions.
  3. You must authorize Adobe Digital Editions in order to read your eBooks purchases. The authorization requires an Adobe User ID, which is quick, free and easy and you should use the username and password you create to authorize Adobe Digital Editions.  An Adobe ID is a free and a nonintrusive way of identifying users. You need only provide a name, country, and e-mail address. You can create your Adobe ID when prompted within Adobe Digital Editions, or go directly to the Adobe.com, select “My Adobe” in the top-right corner, then click on “My Adobe ID” and follow the instructions for creating an Adobe ID. https://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in.adobedotcom.html?returnURL=https://www.adobe.com/account/account-information.html Note that you create an Adobe ID from a web browser. Once you’ve received confirmation the Adobe ID is created, then you may close the browser and return to Adobe Digital Editions, and enter the Adobe ID and password you created.   You have now authorized Adobe Digital Editions.* 
  4. Once you've authorized Adobe digital editions, return to your MyASNT account and download a copy of your book by clicking the "Download" link next to the book title.

For subsequent downloads, just log in to MyASNT and select the 'Download' link next to the ebook title.

*Testing your installation of Adobe Digital Editions.   

Download a free ebook to ensure you care read the ePDF on your computer or other supported reading device.  If you’re able to open and read your ePDF, then you’ll be ready to go. You can also download a free ePDF from the Adobe® Digital Editions Sample Library.   If your copy of Adobe® Digital Editions is properly installed and set up, you should be able to download and then immediately read any of these free ePDF.  If you have an issue with opening your free ePDF, please see Adobe.com's FAQ and support page for help:

Every ebook must be down loaded and  Adobe Content Editions installed to a Windows or Mac computer first, but if you want to use a reading device, there are lots of choices.  See a full list of device that work with Adobe Content Service.

(this is from adobe editions web page)  Ebooks can be copied from one device to another device. If two devices are activated with the same Adobe User ID, purchased books can be opened on the other device. If the other device is not activated or if it is activated with another ID, a pop up window will appear to ask for ID when opening the purchased books.

If ACSM files aren’t opening automatically with Adobe’s Digital Editions:

  • Open Adobe’s Digital Editions.
  • Make sure you’ve authorized with your Adobe ID. To check, click on “Authorization information” under the help menu.
  • If “Authorization Information” is grayed out, you will need to go to Adobe.com and create a free account.
  • Once authorized, go back to Digital Editions, and under the help menu, choose the “Authorize computer” and input the login information you used to create an Adobe account.
  • To open the Adobe Content Server Message, under the file menu choose “Add to library.”
  • At the bottom right of the open dialog, change the file type. By default, “ebooks” will be selected. Change this to “Adobe Content Server Message.”
