Mehl Honor Lecture Award

Lecture Information

  • Purpose: To recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the science of nondestructive testing. Such contributions may be in the area of research, applications technology, management, education, equipment development or other related areas.

    *The Mehl Honor Lecture is presented in odd-numbered years (opposite the Lester Honor Lecture)

  • Eligibility: A candidate for this Lecture must have made outstanding contributions to the science of NDT and be prominent amongst his/her peers.
  • Method of Selection: The Mehl/Lester Awards Committee selects up to one individual in odd-numbered years, provided the nominee has met the established guidelines. The Committee considers nominees two years prior to the year that the award will be presented (i.e. in 2013 the Committee will consider nominations for the 2015 Mehl Honor Lecture).

    *The recipient of the Mehl Honor Lecture will provide a lecture at ASNT’s Annual Conference during the year of the named award (i.e. 2013 Mehl Honor Lecture Recipient will present in the fall of 2013).

    *A written text of the lecture is to be provided to ASNT for publication in Materials Evaluation. The format, style and schedule for the text is to be obtained from ASNT Headquarters (please contact: Nat Moes, M.E. Editor, at: nmoes@asnt.org). The paper will be published in the December or January Materials Evaluation issue following ASNT’s Annual Conference. The lecturer is expected to provide the manuscript to ASNT Headquarters in ample time to meet the publication date. The magazine feature title shall be subheaded “Mehl Honor Lecture Winner”.

  • Award Timeline:
    • Announcements are made in the: February Issue of Materials Evaluation in odd-numbered years
    • Nomination deadline: 1st of August in odd-numbered years
    • The Mehl/Lester Awards Committee will provide its recommendation to the ASNT Board of Directors during ASNT’s Research Symposium
    • The recipient will be notified following the Research Symposium
    • The lecture and award presentation will be given at the second future ASNT Annual Conference

Nominations for the Mehl Honor Lecture may be made by ASNT’s general membership and members of the Mehl/Lester Awards Committee, and shall consist of:
