As the country gradually reopens, ASNT is adjusting to the new normal we will be facing for the foreseeable future. The majority of the ASNT International Service Center staff continue to work from home, where they have excelled at meeting member needs and running operations in this new environment.

Here are some of the latest updates from ASNT:

Resumed shipments of ASNT Store purchases

ASNT is processing book and merchandise purchases through the ASNT Store. All ASNT shipping staff wear face masks and gloves when handling store materials, and all incoming shipments are held in their shipping containers for 72 hours prior to opening. Shop online here.

ASNT is committed to hosting world-class events without impeding on recommended distancing guidelines; thus, ASNT has shifted our remaining summer events to a virtual format. Enjoy incredible content and an immersive experience from the comfort of your home or office.

6 April 2020

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. I'm sure you are continuing to receive updates about how the COVID-19 outbreak has affected different businesses and organizations, and in that same vein, I wanted to update you on how this unique situation continues to impact the American Society for Nondestructive Testing.

The ASNT International Service Center (ISC) is located in Columbus, Ohio, and thus follows Ohio state-issued orders regarding COVID-19. I previously shared that Ohio was on a stay-at-home order until 6 April; this order has now been extended to 1 May. While we all sorely miss working together in person, the ISC staff are happy to follow these orders and support what's best for our community. We have been successfully working from home and will continue to do so until the order is lifted.

Shipments from ASNT

Much of our operations continue normally as we serve our members, certificate holders, and other NDT professionals around the world, but I'd like to highlight potential disruptions. At this time, we are unable to ship out merchandise, book orders, membership cards, new member packets, certification cards, and certificates. eBooks may still be purchased online, though—and I strongly encourage you to try this option out! eBooks allow you an easily searchable, take-anywhere style of the same great information contained in our publications.

You can also access your copies of Materials Evaluation and The NDT Technician online, and, in most areas, these publications will still be shipped on a regular schedule. However, our printing partner notified us that the following countries have stopped accepting inbound international mail. These countries are Botswana, Cayman Islands, Chad, Ecuador, Fiji, French Polynesia, Honduras, India, Kuwait, Libya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mongolia, New Caledonia, Panama, Peru, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Bolivia, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.

The printer will continue to prepare, address, and ship out mail to these countries, which then goes into storage, stateside, until acceptance resumes. Because the duration of the acceptance suspensions cannot be predicted, delivery completion to the addressed countries is also undeterminable. Customers may wish to consider removing addresses to the affected countries until service resumes. These changes may be made by logging in to your MyASNT account.

Distance Learning Opportunities

Finally, I'd like to share with you distance learning opportunities for those who may also be under stay-at-home orders. While your daily life is interrupted, you may want to pursue developing yourself professionally during this downtime. ASNT offers monthly webinars, with this month's webinar topic being "Improving on the 6 dB Drop Technique for Determination of Flaw Length," presented by Paul Holloway. Register for the webinar here.

I'd also encourage you to explore academic interests outside of nondestructive testing. On Coursera, you can find online courses on a seemingly endless list of subjects from higher learning institutions and companies around the world.

Individual members experiencing hardships due to unemployment or temporary disability may qualify to have their membership dues waived for up to six months. Please call ASNT customer service at 1-800-222-2768 (1-614-274-6003) for assistance.

The staff at the ISC is here for you during this time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at Stay safe and well.

Updates from ASNT Executive Director on COVID-19

I hope this message finds you safe and well. I am encouraged by the many emails and calls I’ve received from members letting me know that they are staying healthy and doing what is necessary to limit the spread of COVID-19.

In this unprecedented time, we remain committed to transparency and keeping you up to date with our adapting operations. Our goal is to continue to be as responsive to your needs as possible.

The ASNT ISC staff is in good health and observing all guidance provided by the CDC and State of Ohio, where the ISC is located. To that end, Ohio will be under a “stay-at-home” order effective Tuesday, March 24 through Monday, April 6.

What does this mean for you?

The ASNT store fulfillment staff will not be permitted onsite to fulfill and ship orders. Therefore, all ASNT merchandise and hardcopy sales are temporarily halted. Certification cards and certificates will not be mailed until our staff is back in the office as well.

While we are hopeful business operations will resume on April 7, we will notify you should the order be extended.

We have also made several significant updates to ASNT’s event calendar. All events scheduled through the end of May 2020 have been rescheduled.

The ASNT Research Symposium 2020 will now take place on July 28 - 30 at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans, LA.

The ASNT Sections Leaders Conference (SLC) will also be in New Orleans, at the same location, on July 25 – 26.

I encourage you to visit for continuing updates.

Updates from ASNT Executive Director on COVID-19

ASNT continues to monitor the rapidly changing situation related to the spread of COVID-19. We understand that concerns for health, safety, and security are affecting our members. We have taken steps necessary to help keep our members, partners, volunteers, and staff safe as we endure this pandemic.

  1. We have cancelled all ASNT events through the end of May 2020, including the ASNT Research Symposium 2020 scheduled for March 2020 in Williamsburg, Virginia, and the ASNT Section Leadership Conference and ASNT Refresher Courses scheduled for May 2020 in Columbus, Ohio. These events will be rescheduled at a later date this year. For people registered for these events, ASNT will give you the option of applying your payment to the rescheduled event or receiving a full refund. ASNT will be reaching out to registrants in coming days to coordinate with registrants.
  2. We have asked all ASNT Sections to monitor instructions and guidance from local governments affecting gatherings, and to consider cancelling Section meetings through April 30, 2020 in the interest of member and public safety.
  3. We have restricted ASNT volunteer and staff travel through April 30, 2020.
  4. We have instituted telework at the ASNT International Service Center. This is a new experience for our staff, but they are committed to continuing to serve our members through this crisis. Please do not hesitate to call or email us should you want to renew your membership, or if you have any questions or concerns.

Additionally, our certification exam partner Pearson VUE has temporarily shut down its testing centers in the U.S. and other countries impacted by COVID-19.

Times of crisis challenge us individually and organizationally, personally and professionally. There is no doubt COVID-19 represents a threat to each of us, but we want you to know ASNT will continue to work hard to help keep our members, partners, volunteers, and staff safe from these threats. But with these challenges come opportunities for ASNT and its members to grow. For example, the Board of Directors, Committees and Councils are meeting online through teleconference technology; we are expanding our online learning programs, beginning with webinars; and we are live-streaming conference sessions and recording sessions for on-demand access. These are just some examples of how ASNT is rising to meet the challenges of this pandemic. We would like to hear from you how the pandemic is affecting your world, and how you, your family and friends, and your employers are rising to meet these challenges. Check in through our LinkedIn and Facebook pages to share your comments.

Stay safe out there!

10 March 2020

At ASNT, our top priority continues to be the health and safety of our members, our employees, and the community. We continue to track the most current news of the coronavirus, also referred to as COVID-19, to determine how it may impact our upcoming events.

ASNT Research Symposium 2020 will not be taking place as scheduled as a result of many key presenters no longer being permitted to travel to the event in accordance with their employer's updated travel policies due to COVID-19.

Presently, all other ASNT conferences and events are proceeding as planned unless there is information from health officials that would suggest otherwise.

We will continue to monitor the situation and make any adjustments to our programming per Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. We will share any changes or updates via email and on the website.

The CDC recommends following standard preventive actions to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases like COVID-19. We’ll be sharing these reminders at upcoming events, as well as providing additional sanitization products to attendees. These guidelines include:

  • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly
  • Avoid shaking hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or sleeve

As always, we ask that you not attend an event if you feel ill. For further updates on COVID-19, please see the CDC or WHO. For questions regarding our events, please contact
