Robert C. McMaster Gold Medal Award

Award Information

  • Purpose: To provide recognition to an individual or event (multiple persons) for outstanding contributions, exceptional meritorious service or significant advancement in any area of nondestructive testing and/or the Society. Selections may be made on the basis of a single outstanding contribution or service or for continual contributions or services over an extended period of time.
  • Eligibility: Individual(s) who has made outstanding contributions to ASNT or the NDT Industry.
  • Method of Selection: The Robert C. McMaster Gold Medal Award Committee selects up to one person or event (multiple persons) each year, provided the nominee has met the established guidelines.
    • Evaluation Criteria:
    • The contribution by the nominee provides tangible, and/or measurable, and/or observable advancement, improvement, enhancement and/or growth to the science of nondestructive testing and/or to ASNT.
    • The contribution, services, advancement, inventions, etc., may be a single illustrious event or may be a number of continuing contributions or services f less individual public notice over a period of many years.
    • The attributes described in the first criteria bullet above determined to be present in the candidate’s history are then weighed, valued or otherwise compared to determine that the candidate is more deserving of recognition via the ASNT Robert C. McMaster Gold Medal Award than his/her contemporaries.
    • The award when made, will bring honor to the Society as well as the recipient by virtue of how and by whom the recommendations were made, the character and reputation of the recipient and the manner in which the Award Committee arrives at its choice.
  • Form of Award: Citation – Gold Frame Award & Gold Medal with Red & Blue Ribbon
  • Materials Submitted:
    • A letter of nomination, setting forth the reason the candidate should receive the award;
    • A resume of the candidate’s activities and reputation supporting the nomination; and;
    • A letter seconding the recommendation from a colleague who is also familiar with the nominee’s activities/reputation warranting the award.
  • Award Timeline
    • Announcements are made in the: December Issue of Materials Evaluation
    • Nomination deadline: prior to February 15th
    • The Robert C. McMaster Gold Medal Award Committee will provide its recommendation to the ASNT Board of Directors during ASNT’s Research Symposium
    • The recipient(s) will be notified following the Research Symposium
    • The award(s) will be presented at ASNT’s Annual Conference
    • Nomination

      Nominations for the Robert C. McMaster Gold Medal Award may be made by any ASNT member and shall consist of

      • A letter of nomination, setting forth the reason the candidate should receive the award;
      • A resume of the candidate’s activities and reputation supporting the nomination; and,
      • A letter seconding the recommendation from a colleague who is also familiar with the nominee’s activities/reputation warranting the award.
