Begin Your NDE 4.0 Journey with Latest Episode of Chat NDT with ASNT
Tuesday, August 30, 2022
ASNT has released the book The World of NDE 4.0: Let the Journey Begin by Ripi Singh, PhD, and Johannes Vrana, PhD. In the August episode of Chat NDT with ASNT, host Debbie Segor, CAE, discusses the book with Singh and Vrana, including the origins of their collaboration and their views on NDE 4.0. NDE 4.0 represents the digital-physical transformation of the NDE/NDT industry through technologies such as automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. This revolution stands to further NDT’s ability to ensure safety and add value to the companies that harness it.
“NDE/NDT is one of the most valuable data sources we have for industry,” said Vrana.
As discussed in the episode, many aspects of the NDE 4.0 revolution are still unknown, which is part of why Singh and Vrana emphasize that the journey is just beginning. Even still, they emphasize the importance for everyone in the NDE/NDT industry to begin thinking about how NDE 4.0 will transform their work and prepare for the changes that will come.
“NDE 4.0 is not a project. It’s not a product. […] It’s a mindset, it’s a transformation. It’s the way you view NDE—how you absorb new technologies, new business models, new processes—to create the same value faster, cheaper, and better, or create additional value propositions,” said Singh.
One way to begin your NDE 4.0 journey is to learn as much as you can. The World of NDE 4.0 provides a great primer for both business leaders and inspectors to think through both the challenges and immense potential of NDE 4.0 and evaluate their readiness for the next revolution. Once you have started on that journey, there are a number of resources available to dive deeper.
