Computed Tomography Innovations for Aerospace with North Star Imaging

As aerospace and defense manufacturers increasingly produce large, complex parts, traditional inspection methods are struggling to keep up. In this episode, we spoke with Matt Johnson from North Star Imaging (NSI) about how computed tomography (CT) provides the 3D visibility needed to catch internal defects and NSI’s new X7000 LT, a system purpose-built to scan oversized parts safely and repeatably. This episode is sponsored by North Star Imaging. Visit them at Booth 207 at ASNT 2026!

Shaping the Future of Digital Imaging: Careers and Trends in NDT

What does it take to build a career at the cutting edge of nondestructive testing? In this episode, we sat down with two NDT professionals whose paths into digital imaging were very different, but who share their excitement about the technology and trends they see shaping the future of their careers.

Together, these two conversations explore the trends reshaping digital imaging in NDT: computed tomography, digital detector arrays, automatic defect recognition, and the growing importance of collaboration between design and inspection teams—especially as parts get more complex.

Whether you're already in NDT or curious how careers in STEM and physics—or even a chance encounter at a café—can lead here, this episode offers a look at where the field is going and who's building its future.

Global Perspectives on Personnel Qualification

Personnel qualification in nondestructive testing isn't a challenge unique to any one country, but the solutions aren't one-size-fits-all. In this episode, we explore how the global NDT workforce is navigating the complexities of training, certification, and standards. First, Tomáš Zavadil of ATG in the Czech Republic explores how focusing on getting candidates to pass examinations can detract from building genuine competency (and what companies can do to rebalance their approach). Then, Nick Eleftheriou, product manager at Evident Industrial and past president of the Australian Institute for NDT (AINDT), reflects on leading AINDT through the COVID-19 pandemic and the lasting infrastructure improvements for NDT training that emerged.

NDT Keeps the Water Flowing

Wastewater management may be the most taken-for-granted utility in modern life, but it depends on rigorous nondestructive testing to keep running safely. In this episode, we spoke with Austin Picano about the unique challenges of inspecting concrete pipes and other wastewater infrastructure, including the methods and specialized equipment (like drones and submersible ROVs) that are revolutionizing confined-space inspections.

Errata

If you've found an error in an ASNT publication, the quickest way to report it is to contact the staff editor listed on the copyright page of the publication. If you're not sure who the staff editor is, email us at publications@asnt.org.

You can find published errata on the corresponding book's product page in the ASNT Store. If you're using an eBook, you're already covered — eBooks are automatically updated with all current errata. Download the latest version or access it through your reader to get the most up-to-date content.

Looking for errata on an out-of-print title? Contact our Customer Support team at customersupport@asnt.org and we'll be happy to help.

Volunteering

There are several ways to contribute your expertise to ASNT Publications. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Authoring or leading study guides and Q&A books

  • Writing handbook chapters

  • Performing technical reviews of new and existing content

  • Revising chapters for new editions

These roles are a great way to give back to the NDT community while sharing your knowledge with the next generation of professionals.

Find current volunteer opportunities on the ASNT Volunteer Portal. You can browse open roles and sign up directly from the portal.

No, ASNT membership is not required to volunteer, and you do not need to be a member of an ASNT Council. Here's a quick guide to the qualifications:

  • For Level III materials: Contributors should hold a Level III certification in the relevant method, or an advanced degree in a related science or engineering field.

  • For Level I or Level II materials: Contributors should hold a Level II or higher certification in the relevant method, or an advanced degree in a related science or engineering field.
